Rashda is a qualified teacher and holds the ‘Bilingualism in Education’ postgraduate certificate.
She gained extensive experience of teaching children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) children both abroad and in the UK and in First and Primary schools. Rashda joined the local authority EMTAS team as an EAL teacher.
She is passionate to ensure that there is effective and regular liaison between everyone involved in the teaching and care of EAL pupils, this includes attending meetings, carrying out first language/initial language assessment, formal and informal advice to colleagues, preparing individual education plans by running induction sessions for newly arrived EAL pupils in schools.
She can coach and support colleagues by sharing knowledge about the abilities of EAL pupils and their needs. Rashda is persistent in looking for new and improved ways of doing things. Her special areas include speaking four languages (Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, English), working effectively with parents, schools and supporting Team lead in developing and delivering training materials. Rashda is a convener of the North East Regional Interest Group.
