How does Artificial Intelligence in education make you feel?
Does artificial intelligence make you feel worried, or do you look forward to new developments using artificial intelligence in education?
Almost every day a new story appears in the press highlighting the incredible benefits or the startling risks of artificial intelligence (AI). working in education how does that make you feel? We all react differently to the headlines. Perhaps it can make you feel happy the technology exists to help the in-car navigation work efficiently. Maybe you like the idea of smart assistants on a phone to help speed up everyday tasks.
Artificial intelligence
The risks can be explained and mitigated for early adopters and keen tech users. However, for those who prefer to wait, watch and learn from the mistakes of others, the advantages might just be emerging. Whatever your thoughts or feelings towards AI it’s important to understand its use in education and know how to talk to our students about it whatever Key Stage or subject you teach.
How does it make you feel?
Don’t worry, you’ve already used it more than you think (and so have your students!)

AI has been around in one form or another since the 1950s and we’ve all used it knowingly or otherwise. However, the launch of ChatGPT (other large language model chatbots are available) felt like the beginning of AI rather than the evolution of a series of technologies and it certainly accelerated the discussion surrounding ethics, plagiarism and the security of intellectual property when talking about artificial intelligence in education.
Artificial intelligence in education
Have you had conversations with your classes about their use of AI? Would you feel confident in spotting pupil use their homework? Could you help them to use it safely and securely? Or do you feel out of your depth even raising the topic?
If you feel closer to the quill and the typewriter than automated text, we can help.
It might feel like your colleagues and students have all jumped on board the driverless car of AI so it could be hard to acknowledge that your journey has just begun. You won’t be alone. Possibly you feel streets ahead and would welcome a chance to share your tips and maybe help others learn from your rookie mistakes. Our summer network meetings will be an opportunity for all to talk about artificial intelligence in education and in the context of specific subject areas; to explore the potential for teachers and students; to share experiences – the good and the bad; to show tools and most importantly ask questions.
Come and join us! Use the links below to book one of subject network meetings, we look forward to seeing you!
