Participants will be introduced to bushcraft and its principles. We will learn how to make shelter to keep us warm and protected from the elements. We will learn fire lighting techniques for cooking, warmth, and pleasure. We will learn how to read the landscape, interpret the weather, and develop map reading skills. We will participate in safe and enriching use of outdoor spaces, tuning our senses into the natural world and make the best use of the resources found within it. We will improve our mindfulness, resilience, and compassion.

Six week course will cover:

  • Session 1: Introduction to Meadow Well Connected Garden, safety briefing, share aims. Shelter building exercise/tent. Begin looking at/planning a group shelter. Demonstration of fire lighting.
  • Session 2: Fire lighting using flint and steel/bow drill. Look at different materials for tinder. Cook food/heat water.
  • Session 3: Return to shelter building and begin making a ‘bender’ (group shelter).
  • Session 4: Continue to work on shelter. knife/blade work. Begin whittling and making feather sticks. Start with potato peelers and move onto knives.
  • Session 5: Create our own sound maps, tuning our senses into the natural world and practicing mindfulness. Introduce map reading and orienteering.
  • Session 6: Take down group shelter. Evaluation.

Minimum 4 pupils Maximum 6 pupils

2.5 hour session to include 15 minute break

Cost: £180.00 per pupil per course (minimum charge £720.00 for 4 pupils)
