How to get involved in the Active Mile
Once again, we are inviting schools to take part in North Tyneside’s ever popular annual Active Mile event on Wednesday 1st April 2026. Our Active Mile is in its 9th year and has continued excellent support from schools and early years settings, as ever we are keeping everything as simple and safe as possible.
This event, which is part of our annual calendar of activities supports the national Daily Mile initiative but includes all school pupils of all ages and key stages and encourages young people (and older) to participate in a range of activities to become more active.

The Daily Mile
During your Active Mile
Step 1 -Share the plan with an assembly
Start your day by gathering the troops and introducing what the The Active Mile is all about. We've prepared assembly slides for you to use which can be downloaded and edited if needed. (Slides will be added here and available to download soon)
Step 2 - Run the activities
On your school site, groups of children take 15 minutes or so on that day to walk, jog or run a mile. This forms part of our Active school focus that has been shared with PE leads across all schools and phases. We hope that children can engage in a unified event to raise the profile of physical activity and to share this on social media, through newsletters and focus on the fun that activity can offer.
Step 3 - Capture your day
Don't forget to capture your Active Mile with lots of photos and videos.
Step 4 - Share your active pics
Please share your Active Mile pics across your social channels, and be sure to tag us in your posts so we can see what you've been doing.
