This series aims to achieve quality first teaching in maths, deepen understanding of the graduated approach and effective challenge.
Impact will be measured as follows;
- Pupil outcomes
- Have high expectations of themselves as mathematicians; they continue to show a positive attitude towards the subject.
- Experience coherent, well-designed lessons.
Which leads to;
- Fewer pupils failing to meet ARE (age related expectations) and an increased depth of understanding.
- Practice development
- Teachers will plan, teach and reflect collaboratively, drawing on their subject knowledge in order to provide a coherent mastery curriculum
- Teachers will demonstrate their understanding of the teaching for mastery of ‘Five Big Ideas’ in their normal practice.
- Professional learning
Teachers in the participating schools will enhance their maths subject knowledge with an emphasis on progression, especially within the key areas of maths addressed by the project.
Termly sessions across the year exploring each idea, watching mastery in action, engaging with research, looking at a range of supporting resources and collaboratively planning lessons. There are 5 key areas of focus.
