Welcome to the Wonderful World of Early Years.

Early Years Children Playing with an Educator

Moving to Early Years?

Have you just been told that you are moving from key stage one or two into early years? Or maybe you have a new colleague coming into the early years team? If you, or they are currently rocking, sweating and wondering ‘what have I done to deserve this?’ Well, they are not alone. Every year I deliver training to educators in North Tyneside preparing them for the wonderful world of young children.

How Can We Help You to Prepare Yourself?

We provide knowledge of the statutory frameworks, how children develop characteristics of effective learning and how to assess this undulating journey. You can learn all about creating learning environments that stimulate opportunities for shared, sustained thinking.

However, the one thing that we cannot teach you is how to stifle laughter when the children inevitably overshare, mimic you or tell a ridiculously surreal joke.

Here are a few examples for your amusement;

  • A child who entered nursery on their first day and used the bin as a toilet.
  • The child whose nursery teacher had to ask parents not to let them wear their favourite sandals as they were constantly looking down at their feet and bumping into things.
  • Children urinating in the playground after having ‘bush wees’ in forest school.
  • Bright red poo in the loo – freaking out staff, discussed with parent and the child just loves beetroot!
  • Funny things they say - ‘Parmesan cheese is like glitter for your spaghetti’, ‘I don’t know if I should have my own kids or if I should just be a Grandma’, ‘You can get £14 for one of these’ – a wing mirror.
  • When learning about true and false - ‘I don’t have false teeth, I have true teeth.’
  • Language rich role play in aspirational areas – ‘can I get you some olives?’
  • Child next to you on the carpet running their hand up your calf and saying ‘oooh spiky’.
  • Children building a frame out of wooden blocks to make a telly – the game developed and the children added in a remote so they could change channels.

Welcome to early years, hope to see you online for our training session on 3rd July 2025.
