White Ribbon Day 2025 – “We Speak Up”
On Tuesday 25th November 2025, North Tyneside proudly joins the global movement for White Ribbon Day and the 16 Days of Action against gender-based violence.
Why It Matters
- 71% of women in the UK have faced sexual harassment in public spaces.
- Ofsted’s 2021 review found 79% of girls and 38% of boys believe sexual assault happens “a lot” or “sometimes” among their peers.
These figures show why we must act. Ending violence against women and girls requires a cultural change—and that starts with speaking up.
Theme: “We Speak Up”
This year’s theme calls on all of us to raise our voices, challenge harmful behaviour, and build a world where everyone is safe, equal, and respected. Silence allows harmful attitudes to continue—speaking up sets a better example.
How can schools get involved?
Education is key to change. White Ribbon Day and the 16 days of action provide a great opportunity to focus on teaching pupils the knowledge and skills needed to develop respectful, kind and fulfilling relationships and to call out behaviour that goes against this.
The White Ribbon organisation have created short presentations for primary and secondary schools to raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign and simple lesson plans that can be found on the website White Ribbon Day 2025 — White Ribbon UK
There are other resources available to teach pupils about healthy and respectful relationships and equality and PSHE leads have been provided with a selection to choose from.
Together, by speaking up and educating the next generation, we can end violence against women and girls.
