The Big Maths Party 2026
On Wednesday 20th May, thousands of children across North Tyneside will once again come together for a spectacular celebration of mathematics at the second Big Maths Party.
This year’s theme — The Magic of Maths — invites pupils to experience the joy, wonder and creativity at the heart of the subject. Even better, the entire event is completely free for schools.
The Magic of Maths
Building on last year’s success, this year’s celebration encourages children to see maths not just as something they learn in class, but as something truly enchanting. Throughout the day, pupils will explore number tricks, surprising patterns and fabulous mathematical facts they can use to amaze friends and family.
Comprehensive free resources
Schools will have access to a rich collection of resources from Education North Tyneside, designed to help teachers across all year groups create immersive, playful and curiosity‑driven experiences. Resources include assembly ideas, videos and activity cards from Reception to Year 6. Children will be making, moving, talking, reading and discovering — all while uncovering the magic woven into the world around them.
Maths all around us
As part of the celebration, pupils will also explore how maths shapes everyday life and the wider world. Just as last year’s event “highlighted its relevance in various career paths”, this year continues that mission by showing that maths is for everyone — creative thinkers, problem solvers and explorers alike.
The Big Maths Party is a proud North East celebration of mathematics, championing the belief that maths belongs to us all.
Keep an eye out for more exciting updates as we approach this year’s magical extravaganza!
